Info
Veteranbanen Bryrup – Vrads is operated by a club of volunteer members who are responsible for the railway’s operations, maintenance of rolling stock, track infrastructure, buildings, and more.
It is a big task to maintain the carriages, locomotives, track, and buildings. No matter how well we take care of the equipment, there will always be something that wears out, rusts, or needs renovation. It is rare that we can buy spare parts for the equipment, so many of the components must be made in our own workshop or in town.
To help us with this, we have 3 tracks in a depot (workshop) that is insulated and heated. A machine department with a lathe and milling machine. A carpentry workshop for woodwork with various machines. A carriage hall to keep the material dry during the winter, reducing wear from wind and weather.
Many of the club’s members work on maintenance, but we also need to operate the train.
In addition to maintaining the equipment, we also operate the train.
Members also drive the many train departures we have each year. Every day, the train needs to be inspected, the locomotive prepared, tickets sold, and, most importantly, the safety of the passengers ensured.
For many children, it is their first train ride, and it is wonderful to witness their excitement and hear the joyful voices of children. Many older passengers can share their own experiences with trains of the same kind as the veteran railway, sometimes almost with tears in their eyes. It’s delightful to meet the many happy passengers.
Yes, many members indeed participate in both maintenance and train operations.
The club’s members are a diverse group. Here, you’ll find doctors, dentists, mail carriers, bank clerks, hairdressers, farmers, truck drivers, grocers, accountants, carpenters, blacksmiths, electricians, machine workers, mechanics, and even a few members who work with railway operations on a daily basis.
A colorful group, where there is room for everyone who wants to contribute with some work and enjoy good companionship. Because in addition to our interest in the railway’s operation, the club is also a wonderful refuge and quickly becomes a part of our “family.”
There is a club evening every Thursday at 7:00 PM. Additionally, work takes place every Saturday from 9:00 AM in the depot in Bryrup.
If you’d like to see what we do and perhaps become part of the community, come by on a Thursday evening or write to us.
Everyone has something we need, and we need everyone who wants to contribute.
